Most DOS users know that two consecutive periods (..) are
recognized as an alias for the parent of the current
directory. For example, ..\FILE1 refers to a file or
directory called FILE1 in the current directory's parent.
In a network environment, directory structures are often
deeply nested, and relative path names can get long and
clumsy, as in ..\..\..\..\FILE2. In a Novell NetWare
network, there's a useful shorthand for these long paths.
Under NetWare, ... (three periods) is the equivalent of
..\.. (the directory two levels up); four dots go three
levels up, and so on. This solution works only for NetWare
volumes, though. A DOS volume won't recognize more than two
dots in a row.
